TRUST PROCESS, 2018
Slip-cast stoneware, various oxides and glazes (Dimensions variable)
Interrogating the act of creating the self and an artwork
-
Trust Process is a ceramic floor installation made of over 40 individual pieces. The piece embodies the process marks of making and maker and reminds us of the need to sometimes just trust in the ongoing process of development (of both art and self).
-
Each piece is cast from one of five plaster, two-piece moulds. They take their shape from a ball of clay squeezed in a hand, left with deep imprints of fingers: they are very tactile and invite being held.
-
The installation flows from bright objects with obvious process marks (seams, pouring holes etc.) to smooth stone like pieces. The whole thing is reminiscent of pebbles and litter on a beach.
-
Words are embossed into some of the pieces: towards the start, blue/green pieces ask, WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?... later, as the casts become more stone like they state more boldly, I AM AN ARTIST.

Photos include test pieces and a collection of unfired squashed casts called Not Good Enough
